Peter Biddulph
Peter is the recipient of a number of awards for his ceramics including a prestigious award from the Design Institute of Australia for an installation of large wheel-thrown sculptural pieces entitled ‘vol_Luminous’.
Fine resolution of both form and surface are qualities important to this contemporary ceramist and it is this attention to detail coupled with a unique design aesthetic and the development of original glazes that has led to invitations to exhibit internationally; this year in Australia, Japan, Spain and the UK. His ceramics are in a number of collections worldwide and he has had work commissioned by Queensland’s Premier’s Department.
Peter continues research into contemporary technological processes and ancient Chinese glaze formulations and it is this fusion of techniques and ideas using ancient and contemporary materials and processes which bring a fresh interpretation to an ancient craft.
Current work is made from Australian Southern Ice porcelain, a world-class porcelain renowned for its strength, whiteness and translucency. His studio practice enables him to create unique handmade work where variations in the composition of the porcelain body mixed with oxide colorants confer individuality and vitality to each piece.
